Welcome to the interview with our esteemed colleague at the TERAIS project, Dr. Štefan Pócoš, a postdoctoral researcher with a robust background in mathematics and machine learning. Štefan has been an integral part of the TERAIS team since his time as a PhD candidate, and now, in his new role as a postdoc, he brings an extensive experience in deep learning, adversarial robustness, and human-robot interaction to the TERAIS team at Comenius University Bratislava, Slovakia, where his research focuses on attention mechanisms, explainability, and the development of AI systems for real-world applications.

The ICANN is a flagship conference of the European Neural Network Society (ENNS) who’s current president is one of the TERAIS leads, professor Stefan Wermter from University of Hamburg. The 2024 edition was organised by the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research (IDSIA USI-SUPSI) in collaboration with AIDD and AiChemist Horizon MSCA projects.

On September 27, 2024, the TERAIS team from UKBA DAI proudly took part in the European Researchers’ Night, held in Bratislava, Slovakia. This exciting annual event, designed to promote science and innovation, provided the perfect platform for the TERAIS project team to showcase the cutting-edge research and technologies in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics.

In September 2024, Lukáš Gajdošech from Comenius University in Bratislava (UKBA) participated in a two-week staff exchange at the University of Hamburg’s Knowledge Technology Research Group (UHAM). This exchange presented a unique opportunity to collaborate with the team working on the adult-sized humanoid robot NICOL, focusing on enhancing human-robot interaction in everyday scenarios.

After the successful Neurorobotics special session in ICANN 2023 we are announcing a second edition of this session organized under the Horizon Europe project TERAIS. The 33rd International Conference on Artifical Neural Networks ICANN 2024 presents a unique forum to bring together researchers across a wide range of disciplines related to AI and Neural Networks featuring features three main conference tracks: AI and Machine Learning, Bio-Inspired Computing, and the Applications.

Last month, the Trustworthy Human-Robot Interaction Summer School (THRISS) brought together participants from diverse academic backgrounds for five days of intensive learning and collaboration in the fields of cognitive science and robotics.

In mid-May, TERAIS team from DAI UKBA took an active part in the 22nd Conference on Cognition and Artificial Life at Fort Science in Olomouc. This international conference held alternately in Czechia and Slovakia provides a platform for presenting the latest research in various fields of cognition, encompassing both living and artificial systems.

Welcome to an interview with our newest colleague at the TERAIS project, a postdoctoral researcher, Michal Vavrečka, PhD., who is dedicated to advancing robotics and artificial intelligence at Comenius University Bratislava, Slovakia.

Neurorobotics brings together interdisciplinary research in machine learning, robotics and bio-inspired artificial intelligence, most prominently using artificial neural networks. Following the understanding by building methodology, cognitive robotics employs neural models in robots that interact with and learn from complex and multimodal environments thus gaining their cognitive abilities.
